Other Quimper Factory Marks

HB-Henriot Factory Marks
Picture
Notes:

The HB-Henriot mark began with the 1984 creation of the Société Nouvelle des Faïences de Quimper by a group of American investors headed by Paul Janssens. They were awarded the rights to use the older marks, hence you'll come across a plate from the 1980s with an older PB Quimper or Henriot signature. In 2003, the French holdings of the firm were purchased by Pierre Chiron, putting the factory back in French hands and with a new name...Faïencerie de Quimper HB-Henriot. Since then, Janssens retired and Chiron created a new company...Quimper LLC...as a U.S.-based subsidiary to distribute HB-Henriot pieces in North America. That venture lasted until February of 2011 when HB-Henriot experienced financial difficulties and entered into receivership. With court approval, a new owner was selected in July of 2011...Jean-Pierre Le Goff. He changed the name of the firm to Henriot-Quimper. Brand new, current production is marked "Henriot".
Lots of changes over the years but,  with only a couple of breaks along the way, the factory can trace its lineage back to 1708 when Pierre Bousquet opened the original Grande Maison on Place Styvel in the Locmaria neighborhood of Quimper.

from January 2003
The Faïencerie d'Art Breton was founded in 1994 by a group that includes a former owner of the HB factory, a direct decendent of the owner of the old Henriot factory, and two leading merchants of Quimper pottery.  Simultaneously preserving tradition and fostering innovation, the firm produced pieces adorned with the legendary petit breton along with limited edition examples by noted international  artisans...including the Scotsman Alexander Goudie, Enrique Marin of Spain, and Olivier Lapicque of Concarneau. The mark was changed in January of 2003 to mark the opening of their new factory facility. In July of 2011, the firm was purchased by Jean-Pierre Le Goff...the same Jean-Pierre Le Goff who owns the Henriot-Quimper factory discussed in the previous section. Still operating, this is where the famous personalized lug-handled bowls or écuelles are produced.
